About Lebrun Labs

Lebrun Labs

A fast-growing toxicology company with active commercial services, strong sales momentum, and an expanding pipeline of patented human-relevant, nonanimal test methods trusted by customers worldwide.

Company Overview

Human-Relevant Science. Validated Platforms. Accelerating Commercialization.

Lebrun Labs was founded in 2009 with a clear mission: develop and commercialize the most accurate nonanimal toxicity tests available. Today, we are delivering on that mission at scale, with multiple validated services in active commercial use, a growing international customer base, and a wholly owned distribution subsidiary, In Chemico™, launched in January 2025 to accelerate global sales.

Validated, human-relevant platforms are in active commercial use across multiple human tissue relevant endpoints: OptiSafe™, a plant-derived macromolecular matrix assay that quantifies chemical-induced ocular damage without animal tissue, delivering quantitative irritation classification in under 24 hours with 100% sensitivity (OECD TG 496, available as contract testing and kit); IVD EIT™, a nonanimal eye toxicity test providing classification across GHS categories including 2A and 2B, and the only validated method that can be used to assign the "eye protection required" regulatory warning; and DermaSafe™, a cell-free platform for quantitative dermal injury-severity scoring and corrosion classification across GHS categories. Our expanded cytotoxicity testing suite extends across eight human tissue compartments, skin (HaCaT, NHEK), ocular (ARPE-19, human corneal epithelial), hepatic (HepG2, primary human hepatocytes), pulmonary (A549, NHBE), intestinal (Caco-2, HIEC), renal (HK-2, RPTEC), neuronal (SH-SY5Y, hNPC), and cardiac (AC16, human cardiomyocytes), using both established cell lines and primary human cells. In parallel, our patented emergency eyewash efficacy platform (US12648892B2; US20250262123A1; WO2025174421A1) is in active development, targeting regulatory acceptance as a physiologically relevant alternative to current occupational safety eyewash performance standards. In Chemico™ serves as the commercial distribution arm for these platforms. In Chemico™.

Backed by five issued US patents and a growing portfolio of provisional and PCT applications filed since 2016, covering emergency eyewash, improved in vitro toxicity predictions, nonanimal ocular test improvements, and in chemico toxicity testing across the US, EP, and Canada, Lebrun Labs is a science-driven commercial enterprise with the intellectual property, manufacturing infrastructure, and regulatory credibility to scale globally. Our manufacturing facility, shipping operations, and quality systems are built for volume.

Capabilities

What We Do

Lebrun Labs operates across three integrated functions, contract testing services, test kit manufacturing, and active R&D, supported by in-house analytical, molecular biology, and manufacturing infrastructure.

Validated Contract Testing

Three commercially active services, OptiSafe™ eye irritation, IVD EIT™ depth-of-injury, and DermaSafe™ skin corrosion, accepted by regulatory authorities in the US, EU, Canada, and internationally. OptiSafe™ delivers quantitative results in under 24 hours with 100% sensitivity and the broadest applicability domain of any validated nonanimal ocular method. IVD EIT™ uses a cell-free enzyme activity platform to classify and score ocular injury severity. DermaSafe™ provides nonanimal skin corrosion classification for chemicals, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and industrial substances. All three are available as contract testing submissions via our online sample submission portal.

Test Kit Manufacturing & Distribution

In-house manufacturing of OptiSafe™, IVD EIT™, and DermaSafe™ kits and reagent sets, manufactured in partnership with our wholly owned subsidiary In Chemico™ (inchemico.co) and distributed to laboratories worldwide. Chemically defined, lot-invariant formulations with no animal-derived components.

Patent Portfolio

Five issued US patents: US10041922B2 (biochemistry-based ocular toxicity assay, 2018), US12115147B2 (antioxidant tear chemistry formulations, 2024), US12521367B2 (related tear antioxidant chemistry, 2026), US12559784B2 (in chemico toxicity test), and US12648892B2 (emergency eyewash platform). Active provisional and PCT applications covering emergency eyewash (US20250262123A1, WO2025174421A1), improved in vitro toxicity predictions (US20240118265A1), nonanimal ocular test improvements (US20230081986A1), and in chemico toxicity testing in EP and Canada (EP4669765A1, CA3283865A1).

Active R&D Program

Ongoing development of in chemico and cell-free test platforms for skin irritation, acute neurotoxicity, pulmonary toxicity, hepatotoxicity, and cardiac toxicity, expanding the nonanimal testing applicability domain.

Regulatory Science

Deep expertise in OECD Test Guideline development, validation study design, and regulatory submission support. OptiSafe™ is independently validated and listed under OECD TG 496.

Licensing & Technology Transfer

Patented technologies available for licensing to testing laboratories, CROs, and industry partners seeking to improve accuracy and reduce false-positive rates in their existing nonanimal test programs.
